Silica Gel Desiccant Grade Product Details and Specifications

Synonyms: Amorphous silica, Synthetic amorphous silica, amorphous silicon dioxide, Silica Gel

SGDS can meet your requirements for the following type of Silica Gel:

Indicating (Blue) Type: In this type all the particles of Silica Gel are impregnated with an indicator. When free from moisture the particles are blue. As they are put to use, the particles take up moisture, Silica Gel gradually turns pink and gives a ready indication that it has done. Its work and requires replacement or regeneration.

The above product is free from foreign impurities such as Chlorides, Sulphates and organic matter and has high absorption efficiency.

Absorption efficiency increases under higher humidity, higher pressure and lower temperature. It can be regenerated by first keeping in sun light or heating to a temperature of 150 C. The product should not be heated to temperatures above 250 C as at this stage Silica Gel loses all of its water content, leading to a complete loss of all the properties of absorption.

    MESH SIZES

Both of the above types are supplied in various mesh sizes as 3 to 4, 3 to 8, and 6 to 20. It is advisable to inform us the exact purpose for which the Silica Gel is to be used so that we can suggest the right type and mesh size. When Silica Gel is to be used in column on sives to pass gases for drying, bigger grains such as 3 to 4 or 3 to 8 should be chosen. For all other cases of dehumidification finer particles are preferable. Absorption being a surface phenomena and smaller particles have greater absorption efficiency than the bigger particles due to additional exposed surface obtained by disintegration of particles.
